Rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front attacked a Bayraktar TB2 drone control center in northern Mali, in the Tessalit region.
The target was operated by the military junta governing the country, and the offensive was carried out using an FPV drone adapted to function as a kamikaze.
According to analyses published by the War Noir channel, the improvised equipment carried an RPG-7 anti-tank projectile, capable of causing significant damage to infrastructure. The action compromised systems essential to the operation of Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones, which have been heavily used by the Malian army since their acquisition in 2022.
The episode highlights the rebels’ growing capability to adopt modern technologies on the battlefield. In June, the group had already carried out a similar attack against Russian mercenaries of the so-called “African Corps” and junta troops, demonstrating a pattern of increasingly sophisticated offensives.
